Ezra Sillas, Jr. passed way on March 19, 2021. Private services will be held in his honor at a later date.
Ezra Sillas Jr., aka “Butch” or “Bull,” departed this world Friday March 19, 2021. Born and raised in East St. Louis, Illinois in 1949, he found his way to Iowa for school. He attended Indian Hills Community College and graduated from Drake University with a degree in Criminal Justice. He worked various jobs: DSM Airport, Drake Security, Youth Group Homes, Fort Des Moines Correctional and as a Juvenile Court Probation Officer for over 30 years, where he retired in 2004.
Ezra had an infectious smile and a trick up his sleeve for family and friends. He was a man who loved to tinker, bike, walk, travel to ball games and willing to offer a quick drink or advice in his man cave. He is a man who will be remembered for his sharp hats, dark shades and a suit with a matching tie and pocket square.
Ezra was well known in the community and will be truly missed. He leaves behind a wife, Guestene, over 50 years as a couple; two daughters, Tynnetta Sillas and Endya (Corye) Johnson; six grandchildren: DeVontez, Kabrina, Brianna, Sydney, Janea and Aerz; sisters, Katie Moore (Willie) and Ruby Dell Smith; brothers, Hercules (Savannh) Brown, Walter (Alma) Sillas, Anthony Sillas and Stanton Sillas; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members that may not have been mentioned here, but surely are not forgotten to him.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions and the family request, a private ceremony for the immediate family will be held at Henderson's Highland Funeral Home. A future celebration service for Ezra will be arranged at another time and date.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that charitable donations be made to the James Hawkins organization, Boys 2 Men youth program (PO Box 57421, Des Moines, Iowa 50317) or the Boys and Girls on Drake Campus in honor of Ezra Sillas.
