Alice Virginia (Robinson) Western was born August 25, 1928, to Harry and Virginia (Bryson) Robinson in Shawsville, Virginia. This beautiful baby girl had five siblings: Delmas, Beatrice, Herbert, Catherine and Dorothy.
Alice moved to Ottumwa, Iowa, with her aunt, Alice Price where she received her primary education. Alice and Dorothy went on a double date and Dorothy’s date decided Alice was the one for him. William Western, Jr. asked Alice to marry him and the rest was history. They spent years loving and caring for each other until William passed away in 1988.
After Alice moved to Des Moines, Iowa, she was employed by Lutheran Hospital, where she worked for over 30 years. After her faithful service with the Iowa Lutheran family, Alice settled into retirement.
Alice loved the Lord and was a member of Kyles A.M.E. Zion Church, under the leadership of Rev. Seth Moulton, where Sister Western served as a Deaconess.
Alice was full of life and enjoyed herself to the fullest. She liked playing cards, traveling and cooking. Alice’s fried chicken and potato salad was always looked forward to at any potluck or family get-together. Alice loved spending time with her family and getting to know everyone that she crossed paths with.
On September 4, 2020 Alice transitioned from labor to reward. She is preceded in death by her husband, William Western; son, Larry Jay Western; siblings, Delmas Johnson, Beatrice Mills, Herbert Robinson, Catherine Talton and granddaughter, Christina Western.
Left behind to cherish Alice’s unforgettable memories are her children, Judy (Robert) Western-Haynes, Virginia (William Boyd) Western, William (Belenna) Western III, Todd (Ruthie) Western, Patty Jo Ryan, Karen Western, Harry Western; grandchildren, Josine, Mark, Jessica, Edward, Nicole, Dominique, Bill IV, Shamoine, Rushuan, Angela, Patience, Jayson, Keisha, Austin, Stephanie, Amberlyn, Xavier and Morgan; sister, Dorothy Callister; 12 great grandchildren and a host of extended family members and friends.
