Gloria Lamay

Gloria LaMay, 90, passed away August 1, 2022. Visitation will be held at Henderson's Funeral Home 5:00PM-7:00pm on August 9, 2022. Celebration of Life services will be held at Noon on August 10 at Evangelistic Church of God in Christ. Burial will follow at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel

Gloria was born July 21, 1932 in Des Moines, IA, daughter of Benjamin Holt and Estella Mary Rose Moore. She attended North High School where she met her lifetime partner Stanford LaMay. Stanford made it known that all the girls loved him, but he loved Gloria. They loved attending the movies, concerts, traveling, and going to Greys Lake. They eventually had four children.

Gloria was a wonderful mother who took pride in being a stay-at-home mom. Gloria loved to cook, and her children loved her macaroni and cheese and macaroni salad. She enjoyed cleaning, decorating, ironing, feeding the neighborhood kids, watching scary movies, collecting baby dolls, shopping, thrifting, walking, spending time with her Aunt Barbara (her mom's baby sister), and going to church. Gloria and her Husband attended Maple Street Church, Evangelistic Church of God in Christ, and she liked visiting other churches.

Gloria worked for home health care and received her daycare license. This led to her passion of taking care of her grandchildren. Gloria was a very active and involved grandmother. While in her care, Gloria taught her grandchildren how to cook and clean.

Mrs. LaMay is survived by her children, Pamela Newman-LaMay, Gloria Davis (George Davis), Sharon LaMay and Stanford Jr LaMay; 14 grandchildren, an abundance of great grandchildren, other extended family and friends.

Preceding her in death are her husband, Stanford LaMay Sr; her parents, Benjamin and Estella Holt; her siblings, Stanley and Alvin Holt.
